It had been 7 years since Pocky & Rocky 2 had been released on SNES, but a lot of early Gameboy Advance games were digging deep into retro libraries to revive characters who never made the leap into 3D. Pocky & Rocky with Becky, on the other hand… A lot of the mainstay enemies have made a return.(Image source: ) WITH? JUST USE A COMMA! While we never got very far because I was a scrub, the time I spent with my mother and scenes from the game itself stuck in my mind for over a decade before I looked into re-acquiring it. Way, way back in my youth, my mother and I spent some time renting Pocky & Rocky on the SNES, and playing co-op. An odd inclusion considering the SNES titles that it followed up on were omitted from release, but, okay, sure, I never played it, so let’s give it a go. While digging up details on some of the games I know less about, I encountered the fact that the sole Gameboy Advance game in the series, Kiki Kaikai Advance - otherwise localized as the bizarrely named Pocky & Rocky with Becky - was released on the Wii U’s virtual console. High-quality pixel art that happens to carry the flavor of iconic Japanese classics is always an expedient way to sell me on a game.I’ve been revisiting the Kiki Kaikai series as part of research for another article I wrote. Natsume PR is eager to point out that the vibrant pixel art of Pocky & Rocky Reshrined is reminiscent of that of the original SNES games - and yeah, I’m pretty jazzed about that. The game is a sequel to the original Pocky & Rocky, and the premise is that young Shinto shrine maiden Pocky and raccoon companion Rocky are trying to save the “Nopino Goblins.” Pocky & Rocky Reshrined revives the classic 16-bit multi-directional scrolling shooter gameplay “with improved graphics, sound, and fun!” Tengo Project includes original series game staff, so it appears to be in good hands, if the trailer itself isn’t enough indication. The game will launch in fall 2021 for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. Natsume Atari and developer Tengo Games have finally released some new PR to discuss what they’re calling Pocky & Rocky Reshrined, in addition to making its new trailer public. Last September, we reported on what was at the time just referred to as Pocky & Rocky 2021, and it wasn’t until New Game+ Expo last week that we got an updated glimpse and a final name.
